Amy Tate Williams has established herself in the professional music realm as an outstanding pianist, vocal coach, choral director, music educator and composer. In 2023, she made a career shift into church music where she serves in various capacities, principally as Pianist and Traditional Worship Coordinator at Forest Hills Baptist Church of Nashville and Worship Leader/Choir Director for Riverside Fellowship in Franklin, TN. Amy moved to Nashville to serve as Chorus Master and Accompanist for Nashville Opera (1998-2023), accompanying 87 productions and countless other events, casting and preparing the opera choruses and coaching principal and apprentice artists. She was acting Music Director for several productions and toured children’s operas for two seasons as Education Director. Another of her long-held posts was Opera Director for the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts (2003-2023) where she created, staged, choreographed, and accompanied original opera theater productions, mentoring a generation of aspiring high school vocalists, many of whom have gone on to professional music careers. A native of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Amy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance from Western Kentucky University and Master’s Degrees in Piano Performance and Piano Accompanying from Florida State University. Her primary instructors were Sylvia Kersenbaum, Marilyn Neeley and Dr. Carolyn Bridger. She was awarded a Graduate Assistantship in Opera Accompanying at FSU which led to freelance coach accompanying positions with Glimmerglass Opera, Nevada Opera, Augusta Opera, and Des Moines Metro Opera, touring for two consecutive seasons as Music Director for OPERAIowa, and training for two years in the Houston Opera Studio at Houston Grand Opera, studying piano with Carlisle Floyd. Over the years Amy has enjoyed a wide range of experiences as an educator. She was on the faculty of both Bel Aire Christian Academy in Houston and Des Moines Christian School teaching classroom music, directing choirs and stage productions. She created a select a cappella vocal ensemble Victory that participated in an international music festival in Bavaria, Germany and concertized in Prague, Czech Republic. At the university level, she has been invited to lead masterclasses at Florida State University, Belmont University, Lipscomb University, Western Kentucky University and Middle Tennessee State University. The University of Memphis hired her as Guest Opera Coach to prepare a double-bill production and Middle Tennessee State University hired her as Stage Director and Conductor for a full production of The Merry Widow. The compositions of Amy Tate Williams are performed worldwide on the concert stage, in the church, in the finest academic institutions, and are streaming on Spotify. In August 2010, she and husband Randy launched their own publishing label, RANDAMWILL Music. The RANDAMWILL website features downloadable and print music for solo voice, solo piano, piano ensemble, choral and chamber instrumental combinations. Also available are her three solo CD recordings, as well as accompaniment tracks for the vocal books.
